A pretty fun week actually. Let's jump on in.
The Electric Six tracks were alright. There's nothing here outstanding, but nothing here that actively annoyed me either. The bass charts are all pretty easy, but they're also quite enjoyable. Guitar is unremarkable, but it gets pretty lively when you hit the solos, and that's enough for me to call it fun overall. The drums are pretty easy, but they're also pretty varied, so I ended up enjoying them a lot. The music is catchy, if not amazing. Overall, good stuff, unless you solely play guitar. In which case, just avoid.
The Raconteurs were really quite fun. There's a guitar solo on one of these songs that's kind of WTF-ish, but otherwise its simplicity all the way around on all instruments. But I really dug the songs so I enjoyed myself quite a bit. The bass is easy, but fun to play. There's plenty of variety with the guitar and drums. You could do worse than getting these songs. Many Shades of Black was probably the best of the bunch, gameplay wise. But they're all worth checking out.
I'll give props to HMX for putting more Alanis in the game. We've got lots of rock, country, metal, whatever. But when you talk about straight up Top 40 pop, there's a lot less of it than there should be. That said, they could have picked some cooler songs lol. So these songs aren't as much fun as You Oughta Know. Playing Head Over Heels on guitar or bass will put you to sleep. Ironic is saved by some hopos and a couple of patterns that are (very very very slightly) more complicated than you would expect to find in a song like this. I still wouldn't go out of my way to play it though. The drums are a blast however. They're both very busy drum charts. Head Over Heels actually has a pattern that I can't quite remember seeing before, which is always awesome. I don't want to make it sound like these are the greatest drum tracks I've ever played, because they're nothing like that. I'm just saying they were a pleasant surprise, and guaranteed that I'll actually come back to these songs at some point lol.
Finally there's Flobots. Its ok. The guitar and bass charts aren't great, but they turn ok once the song picks up and gets going. The drums are better, in that there's some interesting stuff going on with the bass kicks that make this worth playing. Again though, just like the drums on Alanis, don't expect anything amazing here lol. Just something kind of cool to play every once in a while. I'm with Luxe on the trumpet riff in the middle of the song, that thing is made of win. They should've charted that to guitar, it would've made things quite a bit more interesting.
So overall, a fun week, if not an amazing one. Between Electric Six and The Raconteurs I would say this was actually a great week for bass players if nobody else. My favorite of the week was probably Many Shades Of Black. My favorite drum and guitar chart of the week, a pretty great bass chart, and the song itself is pretty cool.
