Overall a really solid week for DLC. Choosing 1 song was difficult as nothing really stood head and shoulders above the rest, at least not by much. I'm running this about a week late because it literally took me that long to make a decision, playing several of the songs over and over on different instruments, but i always came back to one song so this has got to be it!
This Week -
Rise Against - Savior
I really enjoy playing all of the songs from Rise Against, even if they do tend so stick to a common formula. They are quick upbeat and make you feel like you are really rockin out. Similitude was the word i think?
Guitar - A nice intro that is tougher than it looks. I stopped and restarted about 4 times just to get it perfect. It looks easy, so why am i not aceing this part? Some alt-strummy goodness through the choruses and some note picking in the verse. It varies enough throughout to keep you from getting bored and sounds good doing it. The slower part in the middle vexes me. Again i can't figure out why i can't make my fingers hit this particular note combination. Severely struggled holding a combo through here. Lots of fun anyway!
Bass - Not the best bass chart of the week but it is up there. This is a very bass heavy song and you will really feel like you are contributing to the music being played, instead of being the 4th wheel. The chart is fairly easy. The notes flow in the samecolor patterns throughout but vary into several different frequencies of when you are hitting them. Learn when to switch from alt-strum to downstrum and back and you are gold!
Drums - This is a drum chart that makes me want to play drums more. I didn't crush it, but i certainly held my own and felt really good doing it. Heavy on offbeat kicks and moves fast throughout. I managed to nail a few OD phrases. This was very satisfying!
Vocals - Rise Against seems to excel at spewing out vocals at breakneck speeds and this is no exception. It's all fun though, and well written. You'll get a slower break in the middle, use it to have a drink, not to smoke. It just might kill you.
Party - I know a couple of Rise Against songs, but this wasn't one of them. People may know it, again they may not. Regardless, this is a good song for expert players to really make a show of. It sounds great and should create a buzz.
Cheers - to Rancid for still making music that is entertaining. If you got more than 2 bucks pick up one of their tracks. Surprisingly, I enjoyed playing Last One To Die more than their classic stuff. A really solid week. Both Rancid and Rise Against will make excellent additions to your RockBand library.
Jeers - to Kings of Leon for being derivitave and boring. If I ever meet them in person I will tie them up and make them listen to their own music and watch their own videos. I daydream about it everytime i am playing their songs. In my head it looks much like a scene from "A Clockwork Orange".
Hope you enjoy this weeks edition of the $2 catch of the week. Excited over Weezer, Blink, and Kiss! Remember mileage may vary per user, all opinions welcome. Please discuss.
