This Week -
Evanescence - Call Me When You're Sober
With all the excitement over the new website I almost forgot to write this up! I hear this song at least once a week, either on the radio or muzak in a restaurant, and always thought it would make a great RockBand. While I am not 100% justified in that thought , it certainly is the best offering this week. Here is why...
Guitar - Chunky, like a peanut butter sandwich, with some light jelly HO's in between to keep the blood flowing in the fingers, and even things out a bit. It's not a challenge, but you won't fall asleep doing it either. Much like that thing napping in my bedroom.
Bass - For me this was the huge downfall of the song, and feel free to correct me if i am wrong here. The song feels really good until you get to the chorus. The chorus just feels mischarted. It sounds and feels like the bass notes are on the half-beats, but the chart looks like they are positioned just a fraction of a second after the half beat. It throws me every time. Play it through and give me some feedback on this one please. Other than that it's a fairly harmless chart.
Drums - I thought this was a lot of fun. It's got this tricky rock/disco thing going on that is much quicker than the overall flow of the song. It vexxed me at first and i struggled with kicks in places where they seemed like they shouldn't be. But by the third chorus i was nailing it and I actually felt like i learned something by playing it, and became just a slightly better drummer for it. Very satisfying.
Vocals - Amy Lee. Everyone has an opinion, and mine is kind of mixed. Love her on one song, hate her on the next. This happens to be one that I love her on. Maybe I like it because I've been on the opposite side of her viewpoint too many times to count, so it's kind of fun and ironic for me to sing it. It's well written and i think she really gets across the emotions she's trying to convey in this one. As far as the chart goes, this was soooooo much easier than i expected it to be. FC'ed on sightread, so if you hate it you never have to do it again. But in my eyes it's a blast. I will request it often if i'm doing vox.
Party - Everyone has heard this one, so it should get some good play time at parties. The instrument charts are easy enough for noobs to get into it. If you are singing bring your significant other front and center and sing it to them, just to add some spice to your life!
Hope you enjoy this weeks edition of the $2 catch of the week. Another mixed bag coming up. These are my favorite weeks. I love being surprised with the unexpected aong you've never heard. Remember mileage may vary per user, all opinions welcome. Please discuss.
