ok here is my question, on the fast drum songs lets say, allman bros songs, the one part in gght, let there be rock live, and I think the joan jett song on rb2, I cant keep the pace up never have been able to. Am I just holding the stick wrong, or using the wrong muscle in the arm to hit with, or would a light tap be any easier

I used to have the same problem. for ggaht or let there be rock, it's actually easiest to two-hand the parts. but for songs that have a faster speed you might be using the wrong muscle. that's what was wrong with me for a long time. I don't know the proper terms for the muscles but I always used the top muscle and it wouldn't work for long, my arm would be in severe pain and for some songs it would even lock up. I'd try using other muscles. of course it could be you're holding the stick wrong or that you're not hitting properly, but I've experimented with all of those things and the muscle part was the only thing that really made any difference for me.

I cant get the hang of the two handed technique for those faster songs. but what works for me is to hold the drum stick in a way so that the top of my hand is facing straight up towards the ceiling. that way you're using the muscle in your wrist is moving up and down (like its supposed to), instead of side to side, which is how alot of people hold their sticks. I don't know if that'll help you or not, but doing so made a huge difference in my scores for those songs, so it worked for me at least. I literally more than doubled my score on Bad Rep the first time I played it like this.

Ya Funk your right. I asked you this same question about two months ago lol (not sure if you remember) but since im not using the french grip anymore (palms facing each other) my scores are getting much higher and I can even pass battery with little or no trouble!

Pretty much. The idea is you're pivoting your wrist up and down instead of side to side, which I gather is the best way to use those particular muscles in your wrist, so its not as much strain to move them that much that quickly. It also has the happy side effect of minimizing movement in your arm. Which means these fast songs hurt ALOT less. Though they still hurt me some. That may just be because I'm old and out of shape though lol.

When drumming palms facing each other there tends to be less sideways movement in the sticks so on smaller heads this can give more control but makes it harder to play fast. However whilst learning the "palms down" method there tends to be a lot of hitting the sticks together on smaller drum heards as there is more lateral movement until you learn control - this can take your scores down and (as has happened to me several times) make you hit the sticks together and one flies accross the room.
