Last week i caught up with metal singer supreme Tim Ripper Owens Freedyites!!What a cool dude!Ex Judas,Ex Iced Earth and currantly in Yngvies Risng Force!!! Yep thats him on Red Devil and Damnation Game !!
[glow=red,2,300]Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens is without doubt among the most important metal vocalists of the past ten years. When he succeeded Rob Halford, joining Judas Priest in May 1996, the press rubbed their eyes, surprised as well as impressed: Owens had previously been a fairly unknown quantity to international music journalists and only a few new of him from the band Winters Bane, but he recorded his first Priest album, Grammy nominated Jugulator (1997) with more aplomb than even insiders had expected. Following successful tours with the British metal legends, the strong studio recording, Demolition (2001), and the live recordings, Meltdown - 98 Live (1998) and Live In London (2003), and the movie Rockstar, that was loosely based on Tim’s experience with Judas Priest, Halford’s return put an end to Owens’ stint with Judas Priest. More or less immediately, he was enlisted by Jon Schaffer to team up with Iced Earth and sang on The Glorious Burdon in spring 2004. Three years later, Owens followed suit with the Iced Earth album, Framing Armageddon (Something Wicked Pt.I), which succeeded the self-titled highly praised debut by his own band, Beyond Fear. 1 I was going to ask you who would be in a Ripper Owens All star Band but looking at your CD that is out Play My Game you already put that together! Billy Sheenan, Bruce Kulick,Rudy Sarzo etc ...... How fun was making the record?
Man it was a blast, working with Bob Kulick and Brett chassin was great, and all these great players, man they are all so good it is amazing! They made it real easy for me.
2 What goes into your song writing process?
No certain process, I just sit down and start working with a song or writing it from the start! I love to write music, always have, there is not one way to do it, that is what I like about it.....songs that one person says is just great, the next person says it is the worst..hahaha
3 When you where growing up and somebody said Tim you're going to be the lead sing of Judas Priest someday would you have believed them?
hahahaa that is funny, I knew I would be, I just needed to get rid of Rob for awhile..hahahaha No, isnt that crazy, I mean who would ever think that could happen. You know when Rob left I thought I was the perfect fit, I was in Winters Bane and thought..I thought, maybe I can sing for JP..LOL
4 How did you get the gig for Judas Priest?
Well they got a video of me when I was in a Judas Priest tribute..I was out of the band for a year and I get this call..and bam next thing I know I am there songing and hanging with the guys, just crazy
5 I know the fan base was like who was this guy , then the first CD you do with them get a Grammy nod how awesome was that for you?
yea, that was cool, I mean I know I was the right guy for the job, remember, I was a big priest fan and If I wanted a singer in there I would have wanted a guy that could sing the old stuff kick ass, yet throw in a wider range and stuff...The Grammy thing was cool as hell, and if people came to the show and walked away not happy, then they where just as dumb as a box of rocks
6 .What was your first show with Judas like for you? Where you nervous?
I was ready man, I might have been more ready then anybody, my voice was young and in shape, and it was all a perfect fit for me..the crowd was great..the boat house in Virgina beach, man it was great
7 Is the movie Rockstar based on you?
Losely..they bought the rights to a story about me in the new your times..the movie was gonna be my story and I think that made some peopl un happy so we pulled away from it and they made up there own story losely baseing it on me so I didnt get paid..hahahah It was gonna be called Metal God...so hey all..there is a GREAT book in my life and a new movie hahaha
8 Then after Judas you join up with Iced Earth, did you get any deja vu feelings ?How was being in Iced earth different then Judas?
A lot different..Crowds became much smaller and a different vibe..but dont get me wrong they where still great crowds, but I was so used to the crowds singing with JP. But it was all good, I learned a lot with IE
9 There are 2 bands out there rite now without a lead singer,Anthrax and Velvet Revolver,would you join if them if asked?
hahaha Well I would love too, just great bands..I think John is back with Anthrax now, but if they need someone for a tour, that would be a dream come true..and Slash, my God how cool would that be, I think what we would do would blow away there past stuff..
10 How is playing with Yngvie?
GREAT..man it is fun, he is a Guitar God, I cant wait to get together and do some more touring with him
11 When playing with Yngvie and he goes off do you find your self onstage going holy s*** i cant believe he pulled that off allot ?
Oh yea..I stand back and watch him and think FUCK man he is good..lol
12 Any more plans to record with Yngvie?
Well I hope so, Just waiting on the call
13 Do you play guitar hero and Rockband?

Yea..I dont play it but I am now on there with Yngwie and that is cool...I hope to get some of my stuff on there..PLAY MY GAME
14 Judas has like 17 tracks in the game any chance of getting some Rippers Priest in there?
I would Rather have Beyond Fear or Tim Ripper Owens solo.....SCREAM MACHINE or Starting over haha
15 Any advice for young people starting out in the music industry?
DON'T...hahaha Go to school

Well working on the few new Covers for the HAIL set list for the Scandanavian tour..but I dont listen to much music more talk radio..Local SPorts talk
