Freezepop is an indie Electropop/Electroclash band composed of Liz Enthusiasm and the Other Sean T. Drinkwater (who claims to be a clone of the "original" Sean T. Drinkwater). They formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1999. The band is named after the frozen snack. The members describe their music as "sweet and cold and fruity and plastic-y", much like the snack
I had the chance to ask the wonderful Liz E. a few questions!
1 What is on the musical horizon for Freezepop?
We are hard at work on a new album. And we're still playing shows, most excited for PAX in a few weeks!
2 I love your band's sound. What are your influences?
A lot of classic synth bands like the Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order, Duran Duran, Information Society, a ton of others. And some new stuff too. Kind of all over the place, really.
3 Having songs on rockband and guitar hero as well, does that make it easier or harder for your band?
It's been great exposure for us! Definitely, way more people have heard about us now.
4 What goes into Freezepops song writing process?
I generally write the lyrics, the boys have written the music. Now we're getting a little more collaborative back-and-forth thing going on though.
5 I haven't had a chance to see you guys live, so can you describe a typical freezepop show? Any cool covers you guys like to do?
We want to keep the shows fun and energetic. We have keytars so the boys aren't stuck behind keyboard stands. We're actually getting new gear and changing things up a bit, so it's going to evolve pretty soon. We've generally done a few covers, "Don't Stop Believin" and "The Final Countdown" but we may expand our repertoire soon too.
6 What is the coolest venue you have played?
We played at NASA last year. You can't get much cooler than that.
7 What is your favorite story from the road?
Oh man... I don't even know, we've had some wacky adventures over the years. Luckily they're all documented in our tour diaries so we'll always be able to remember...
8 Liz E.s All-Star band, who would be in it?
Probably a hybrid of Duran Duran and a-ha.
9 Can Freezepop gold star their songs in Rock Band?
I am SO BAD at video games. I guess Rock Band is OK since I can sing. We did pretty well playing in easy mode, but once it gets harder, we fail pretty quickly.
10 Your thoughts on the upcoming RBN ?(Rock Band Network)
Yes! Awesome! Stay tuned for exciting announcements...
11 Any advice for anybody wanting to get in the music industry?
Don't expect to make a living doing it. So make sure you're at least having a whole lot of fun.
12 Whats on Freezepops tour rider?
Nothing terribly fancy, we haven't turned into divas just yet. Mostly practical stuff like batteries for our keytars.
13 Freezepopapalooza, who would be on that bill?
I would want to have all the old-skool bands who influenced us. I'd get all starstruck. I can't really get all starstruck about younger bands, even if I like them a whole lot.
14 What music do you enjoy listening to today? What was the last song you listened to in your car?
I am loving the new Ming & Ping album! Other bands we're kind of aligned with are Plushgun and Oppenheimer. And... I don't have a car. I live in Boston, you don't need them here.
15 What is the Canada story?
It's a long-ass story, but it's online here: www.freezepop.net/pix/110906.html
16 Do you guys get undies thrown on stage a la The foo Fighters and there mentos ?
Yes, we've started a wall of undies in our practice space too!
